Terms and Conditions

When you book a trip the following terms and conditions become part of your contract with Active Journeys Inc.


To reserve a space on any trip, please complete the enclosed Reservation Form and return it to us along with a deposit of $450 per person. Sending the deposit does not automatically ensure confirmation, the tour will be confirmed in writing by Active Journeys. The deposit can be paid by credit card or personal check, payable to Active Journeys Inc. Then we will send a pre-trip departure packet, insurance policy and invoice. Please note that no reservation can be confirmed without a deposit.


We will hold your space for two days until the completed Reservation Form and deposit are received. You can charge your initial deposit using Visa or MasterCard (a 3% processing charge will apply).


Complete the Reservation Form and mail it or fax it to our office. We will hold your space for 2 days until the deposit is received. You can charge your initial deposit using Visa or MasterCard (a 3% processing charge will apply).


You can email us at info@activejourneys.com We will hold your space for 2 days until the completed Reservation Form and deposit are received. We do not recommend sending credit card details by email.


Final payment by personal check is due 60 days prior to departure (credit cards are accepted with a 3% processing charge). Failure to provide final payment at least 31 days prior to departure will be considered notification of cancellation by you, resulting in loss of any and all payments received. About 2-3 weeks prior to departure any final documents and/or airline tickets (if applicable) will be sent to you.


If you cancel your trip, Active Journeys Inc. must be notified in writing (letter, fax or email) All monies will be refunded in full less the following cancellation charges:

61 days & more prior to departure $250
45-60 days prior to departure 50% of trip price
32-44 days prior to departure 75% of trip price
0-31 days prior to departure 100% of trip price

Trip cancellation insurance is strongly recommended and can be obtained through Active Journeys Inc.


Travel arrangements through Active Journeys Inc. are sold as a package, and therefore no refund on unused hotel rooms, meals, sightseeing, ground transportation or any other services booked can be given.


There is a fee of $150 per participant for each change when a confirmed reservation is done more than 61 days prior to departure. For changes requested at 60 days or less please see Cancellation policy above. A late booking fee of $50 per participant will be charged to bookings made within 21 days of the trip departure date.


Trip descriptions, prices and booking conditions are updated regularly. However, due to currency fluctuations, rising costs and changing travel conditions overseas, Active Journeys Inc. reserves the right to modify the price and/or itinerary of any trip.


If single accommodation is requested, a single supplement fee will be charged. We try to match up single participants on our tours.


If Active Journeys Inc. is forced to cancel a trip due to inadequate trip participation or conditions beyond its control, its liability is limited solely to the amount paid to it by the participant for the services provided for in the description of the trip. Active Journeys Inc. cannot be held responsible for any loss due to the imposition of charges or penalties by any transportation company, including airline carriers, on partially or totally non-refundable tickets. In the case of cancellation by Active Journeys Inc. payments may be transferred to another trip if you choose.

Active Journeys Inc. also reserves the right to cancel any trip prior to departure upon the refund of the amount paid to it by the participant for the services provided for in the description of the trip and return of that amount shall release Active Journeys Inc. from any further liability to the participant.


While purchase of travel insurance is not mandatory to join a trip, it is strongly suggested that you purchase it. A variety of travel insurance plans covering trip cancellation, trip interruption, accident, medical and baggage/personal effects is available for purchase. If insurance is declined, the participant must sign a waiver of insurance purchase. It is also advisable to check your current health insurance policy for its overseas applications.


Shortly after you make a reservation, you will receive detailed trip notes that include a descriptive itinerary, information about arrival and departure, public transportation, clothing and equipment list and other pertinent information. Please review it and advise Active Journeys Inc. of any errors immediately.


Most trips included in this brochure are offered in cooperation with our affiliate companies in Europe, the U.S., Canada, Australia, Central & South America, Africa and Asia. The groups are an interesting mix of participants from all over the English-speaking world. Many participants find the opportunity to travel with those of differing nationalities and cultural backgrounds to be a highlight of their trip. Drawing participants on a worldwide basis enables Active Journeys Inc. to economically operate more frequent departures with little risk of cancellation due to insufficient numbers of participants. The local guide shall, in his/her absolute discretion, have the authority to prevent a participant from commencing a trip or require a participant to leave a trip.


Good physical and mental health are essential for the enjoyment of these active, outdoor trips. By forwarding the Reservation Form, the participant certifies that he/she does not have any physical or other condition of disability that would create hazard for himself/herself or other participants. It is essential that any participant with a medical condition requiring regular treatment or which may be affected by rigorous activity, altitude, heat, cold, etc., notify Active Journeys Inc. in writing in advance of travel. Medical insurance is mandatory for these participants. The local guide shall make the ultimate determination of a participant's fitness to embark upon or continue a trip.


Participants consent to the use of any pictures or videos taken of them on a trip or sent to Active Journeys Inc. by them for reproduction and use in any Active Journeys Inc. advertising and marketing, including on any web site and other advertising and marketing publications.


A valid passport is required for international travel with an expiry date of at least six months after your return. Please verify if you require a visa for the country to which you are travelling. All participants are responsible for obtaining any visa that they require for travel related to a trip.


Active Journeys Inc. contracts with independent suppliers of travel services at the destinations where the trips take place in order to provide the services to participants. In doing so Active Journeys Inc. takes care in order to ensure the quality of the independent suppliers however, it has no control over them and is not responsible for any act or omission by them. All services provided by the independent suppliers are subject to the conditions imposed by them. Active Journeys Inc. is not responsible for any injury, damage, loss, accident, delay, irregularity or additional cost resulting directly or indirectly, whether physical or mental, or to property, resulting from any delay, substitution or deficiency of quality of equipment or service, or any act, omission, or negligence of any of the independent suppliers, their agents, servants, employees or subcontractors supplying any of the services or for any claims for such loss, damage, or injury, whether physical or mental, arising there from, or from any claim that arises by reason of any action or omission of any party other than Active Journeys Inc.


Active Journeys Inc. liability for any loss, damage or injury, whether physical or mental, arising from its actions, omissions or negligence, is limited to the price of the trip purchased.


Active Journeys Inc. reserves the right to change any itinerary at any time when it is deemed advisable for the safety of the group or to comply with any governmental restrictions.
